Bookaholic ("the app") is a language-learning e-book reader with a dictionary-lookup vocabulary notebook and spaced-repetition review. This policy explains what the app does — and does not do — with your information.
Bookaholic does not collect or sell any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking SDKs. Everything you create in the app stays on your device. Bookaholic works fully offline — no word or reading data is ever sent to any dictionary service or web search. The only network activity is optional and user-initiated: downloading an Apple Translation language pack the first time you translate into a new language (managed by iOS; translation itself happens on your device), and downloading an optional offline dictionary file from the app's own release assets.
The following are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to us or anyone else:
This data is included only in an encrypted device backup if you choose to make one through Apple's iTunes/Finder or iCloud device backup. Bookaholic itself does not run any cloud sync in this version.
Because everything lives on your device, deletion is entirely in your hands:
Bookaholic works fully offline by default. Its built-in dictionaries (JMdict, Japanese WordNet, KANJIDIC2, CC-CEDICT and other open data) are bundled in the app, and you can optionally download additional offline dictionary files from the app's own release assets — this fetches a file and sends no personal data. The only other optional network feature is described below.
Bookaholic also offers an optional Translate feature, built on Apple's on-device Translation framework, and a Chinese-gloss fill-in for saved words that uses the same framework.
When you translate a passage or a saved word's gloss is filled in, the text involved is passed to Apple's Translation framework so it can be translated on your device. The first time a given language pair is used, iOS may need to download that language's Apple translation data over the network. Apple performs this translation and manages these downloads; it is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not this one. You can turn the machine-translation fill-in off in Settings → Languages & Translation.
Bookaholic does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
